Date 1 or All FAQ

After making changes to the date and time, tap on the Settings button Settings again to close the window.

How do I include the time with the date?

To include the time along with the date when a dated photo is visible on the main screen, tap on the Settings button Settings at the lower right hand corner of the screen. This will display a window with a list of settings you can change. Tap the Date/Time button Time to display the Date/Time window. Flip the Time switch to the On position and the time will be included with the date. You can also select to use 12 hour or 24 hour format for the time. Tap on the Settings button Settings again to close the window.

Why is the date on the photo wrong?

There are several reasons why the date displayed on the photo may be wrong. Date 1 or All uses information stored in the photo file (known as "metadata") to determine when a photo was taken. The metadata might have the wrong date if the clock was not set in the camera used to take the photo. Scanned photos and photos downloaded from the net may have no metadata at all. In that case, Date 1 or All uses the date the photo file was created on your iPhone or iPad. This may or may not match the date the photo was taken.

How do I specify a different date/time?

To change the date and time when a dated photo is visible on the main screen, tap on the Settings button Settings at the lower right hand corner of the screen. This will display a window with a list of settings you can change. Tap the Date/Time button Time to display the Date/Time window. Use the wheels at the bottom of the window to select a new date for the photo. If the Time switch is on, you can also change the time displayed with the date. Tap on the Settings button Settings again to close the window.

How do I save the dated photo?

Once you've selected a photo to date and made changes to the appearance and location of the date (if any), tap on the Save button Save to save the dated photo.

How do I share the dated photo with others?

You can share the dated photo with others using Text Messages, Email, Facebook, Twitter and other services by tapping on the Share button Share. A window will be displayed where you can select which method to use for sharing the dated photo. Note: The dated photo will be automatically saved when you select to share it.

What if I decide not to date the photo after all?

Tap on the red X Exit in the lower left hand corner of the screen to exit from the Date Photo function and return to the main screen of the app. You will prompted to save the dated photo or discard it. The original undated photo will remain unchanged.

Where are the dated photos stored?

Dated photos are stored in the Dated Photos album on your device. If the Dated Photos album does not already exist on your device, it is created automatically by the app.

Why is there more than one copy of the dated photo?

Apple requires that all photos stored on the device also have a copy of the photo in the Camera Roll album, so there will be a copy of the dated photo in the Camera Roll (or the Recently Added album in iOS8).

How do I delete the date from a dated photo or change the appearance of the date?

Once a dated photo is saved, the date cannot be deleted or changed - it is a permanent addition to the photo. However, the original photo without the date is still in the Camera Roll album (or Recently Added album in iOS 8) (and possibly other albums if you've organized your photos into albums). You can simply delete the dated photo from your device and keep the original undated photo. Note: New photos taken with the Date 1 or All app have no undated copy of the photo in the Camera Roll (or the Recently Added album in iOS8).

Why doesn't the app just replace the original photo with the dated photo?

Apple will not allow apps to modify or delete photos that the app itself did not create. This is a security precaution to prevent buggy apps from accidentally deleting valuable photos.

Why is the date cut off at the edge of the screen?

Sometimes photos are too big to fit on the screen. Pinch the photo with two fingers to make the entire photo visible on the screen - the entire date should be visible in the selected location.

If you're having problems with the date being cut off when photos are printed, see the section Preparing photos for printing below.

Taking a New Photo

How do I take a new photo with the camera in the Date 1 or All app?

To take a new dated photo, tap the Take Photo button Take Photo on the main screen of the app. This will display a camera viewfinder similar to the iPhone camera app. The date will be displayed in the viewfinder with the same appearance and location as it will have in the dated photo. Aim the camera and tap on the Take Photo button to take a dated photo. The message Photo Saved! will be displayed briefly on the screen and the app will be ready to take another photo.

Why does the app want to use my current location?

On devices equipped with GPS, the Date 1 or All app can tag photos taken with the camera function with your current location. The app will ask for permission to use your current location. If you answer Yes, photos taken with the camera function will be tagged with the location the photo was taken. If you answer No, the photos will not be tagged with the current location. To change the permission setting for the app, use the Settings app on your device, then select Privacy and Location Services.

How do I select which camera to use?

If your device has both front and rear cameras, the Camera Select button Camera Select will be visible on the camera viewfinder screen. Tap on the button to select which camera to use. The button will display which camera is currently in use.

How do I change the flash settings?

If your device has flash available for the rear camera, the Flash Mode button Flash Mode will be visible on the camera viewfinder screen. Tap on the button to select one of the three flash modes (Off, On, or Auto). Note: The front camera has no flash so the Flash Mode button will not be visible when the front camera is selected.

Can I take Panoramic or HDR photos with the app?

No, the Panoramic and HDR features are not available when taking new photos with the app. However, these features can be used to take photos with the iPhone camera app - these photos can then be dated with the Date 1 or All app.

How do I change the appearance of the date?

To change the appearance or location of the date before taking a new photo, tap on the Settings button Settings. This will display a window with a list of settings you can change. The following settings are available:

Where are the new photos stored?

The new dated photos taken with the camera will be stored in the Dated Photos album and the Camera Roll (or the Recently Added album in iOS8 and later versions of iOS).

How do I take a new dated photo and share it with others?

You can share a new dated photo with others using Text Messages, Email, Facebook, Twitter and other services by tapping on the Share button Share. The dated photo will be taken and a window will be displayed where you can select which method to use for sharing the dated photo. Note: The dated photo will be automatically saved when you select to share it.

Why is the "Save Failed!" message displayed when taking a new photo with the camera?

If a "Save Failed!" message is displayed when taking a new photo with the camera, it may mean the Date 1 or All app does not have access to your photo albums. Tap the Settings icon on the main screen of your device and then select Privacy and Photos. Make sure the switch for the Date 1 or All app is turned On.

How do I leave the camera function and return to the main screen?

Do I have to date ALL the photos in the album?

Preparing photos for printing

How can I make sure the entire date will be visible when I print my photos?

The easiest way to ensure that the date will be visible when a photo is printed is to select one of the date locations marked with * when dating a photo. These locations are closer to the center of the photo. The following paragraphs describe the procedure for cropping a photo if one of the date locations that is NOT marked with is used to date the photo.

The iPhone and iPad cameras use an aspect ratio of 4:3. This may cause the date on dated photos to be cut off when printing photos using standard sizes such as 4x6 or 5x7. Using date locations marked with are less likely to cause the date to be cut off when printed. Photos using other date locations will need to be cropped to ensure that the date will be fully visible when they are printed.

The standard Photo app that comes with the iPhone and iPad has the ability to crop photos to match all the standard photo sizes. To use the Photo app to crop dated photos, do the following steps:

Repeat the above steps for other photos prior to printing them to make sure the date will be fully visible.

Note: The iPhone Photo app does not save a copy of the dated photo when you use it to crop the dated photo. If you need more than one size of a dated photo, you can use the Date 1 or All app to add the date to the original undated photo again, then use the iPhone Photo app to crop the new dated photo to another size.

GPS Location Questions

Why is the displayed address wrong?

The iPhone and iPad use consumer grade GPS devices and other methods to determine your current latitude and longitude. The best accuracy that can be achieved using these methods is about 15-20 feet. The Date 1 or All app sends this latitude and longitude to Apple servers to determine the Street Address and Places of Interests. In some cases, Apple may not have the most accurate or up-to-date information about a location.

How do I fix the address if it's wrong?

If the address displayed is not accurate, it can be edited by tapping the Settings button Settings then tapping on the GPS Location button GPS. The current address is displayed in two text fields labeled Edit Address/Text:". The address can be changed by tapping on the line that has incorrect information and using the keyboard to type in the correct address. Note: The address must be corrected before saving the photo when dating an existing photo, or before the photo is taken using the Take Photo function of the app.

Why do I get the message "Photo has no GPS Info" when I try to add the date and GPS location to a photo?

The iPhone and other smartphones store the latitude and longitude where the photo was taken in the same file as the photo. However, photos that come from other sources, such as scanned photos or photos taken with standard digital cameras, do not have the latitude and longitude stored in the file along with the photo. The Date 1 or All app will display the message "Photo has no GPS Info" when a photo is being dated which does not have the latitude and latitude stored in the file.

Why do I get the message "GPS Location Not Available" when I try to add the date and GPS location to a photo?

The Date 1 or All app uses the Apple Maps database to determine the address of a location and points of interest near that location. The device must have a connection to the Internet to access the Apple Maps database server. If the device does not have a good connection to the Internet, the message "GPS Location Not Available" will be displayed.

Why is adding the GPS Address to an entire album not supported?

If the GPS Address or Points of Interest are added to an entire album using the Date All button, there is a chance that some of the photos may be labeled with inaccurate GPS information for the reasons described above. The Date Photo button should be used instead to add the date and GPS info to the photos one at a time. If incorrect GPS info is displayed, it can be edited prior to tapping the Date Photo button.

Text Labels

Can I add a text label to a photo in addition to the date?

Yes you can! While the photo to be dated is being displayed (or the camera viewfinder is visible when taking a new photo with the app), tap on the Settings button Settings then tap on the GPS Location button GPS. Turn on the "GPS Loc:" switch (make sure it's green) and select the Address as the "GPS Format". Delete the text in the two "Edit Address/Text" fields and type your own text in those two fields. The new text will appear in the photo in place of the address.
